Evanescent

I recently lost a good friend named Ryan. He was young and vibrant, so his passing was a total shock to me and many others. It's been tough for me to process his absence. Ryan was a dynamic and optimistic individual who immediately became the friend you didn't know you needed. 

This painting comes from the Great Smoky Mountains in east Tennessee during an early March hike to Rainbow Falls. When I began on the trail that day, it was sunny and mild. As I made my way up the slopes, I passed into an elevation with a light covering of snow. It was brilliant, scintillating, and magical. 

Shortly before his death, I shared the initial study for this painting with Ryan. He briefly offered his thoughts, and cheered me on. That's the way Ryan was.

This title is a nod to his influence in my life. If you've followed my artwork for any length of time, then you know that this native Wisconsinite is partial to winter landscapes. I felt that this was a fitting tribute to my dear friend.
