One of the most surprising things in my evolution as a landscape painter is that I like to depict rocks. Had you told me this would be the case when I first began to paint, I would have looked at you with a great deal of skepticism. But, y’know, when you really study the boulders along waterways, you’ll see that they have some cool character: gnarly edges, subtle colors, and complicated relationships with their peers. Just like people.
