Backroad, June

I pride myself on having a decent sense of direction, whether I’m exploring a city or meandering rural roads. For this reason, when I go out to paint on location, I try to get lost. I deliberately seek out the most obscure road, “Gee, I wonder where this goes?”

This was the case during a beautiful June evening in eastern Tennessee when I came across this vista. No joke: Just before I found this subject, I passed “Possum Hollow Road.” That’s when you know you’re in a remote area!

This moment caught my eye because of the graceful clouds over the landscape combined with the contrast of sunlight and shadow throughout.
