The North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park glows with beautiful autumn foliage over a mountain stream in early November. They say that, "The truth is stranger than fiction." In landscape painting, I would say the analog to this is that nature's authentic colors are as brilliant as anything we can imagine... It's all right there, organically, waiting for the right light and proper timing.
