Lake Santeetlah, North Carolina

A big part of my artistic process is gathering quality source photos. Good timing, beautiful lighting, and a little bit of luck are always behind each successful painting. 

I really couldn't believe how all of these ingredients came together perfectly when I caught this moment in western North Carolina. I've always been a little bit biased that the best fall colors have to be located north of the Mason Dixon Line. Wrong!  

This landscape is based on an earlier study, Epic, and I'm thrilled with how this larger painting captures the vibrancy and energy of the moment.
