The smallest features can kick off a big idea for me, and this cityscape from Lower Manhattan is one such example. We artists always rhapsodize about "the light!" and this subject, from a winter morning in the city, is a great example of why.
If you follow my artwork, then you know that I'm a big fan of the clarity of crisp, clear winter sunlight. There's no haze and humidity, just pure, unadulterated color. And what better way to enjoy it than in one of the best cities in the world? That tiny wedge of sunlight in the lower right corner of the composition jump started the entire idea for this painting.
