Quill

One of the most vivid recollections from my childhood in southern Wisconsin is the spare and stark beauty of a sunny winter day. Snow has a magical way of simplifying the landscape and popping elements with powerful contrasts. 

Although it's pretty rare, we occasionally get a taste of winter here in east Tennessee. I nabbed this subject following a few inches of fluffy snow. It's always a dicey proposition to venture out onto the roads here in the South following any amount of snow, but this beautiful vista along the Tennessee River was just a short distance from my home, so I didn't have to risk life and limb to enjoy it.
