The first time I traveled to Philadelphia was to exhibit my artwork in the Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show many years ago. Driving with a van load of my artwork into a major city was intimidating for me. My husband was my trusty navigator, but our GPS got confused near City Hall. And then all hell broke loose because everyone except me seemed to know that the lane markings around Broad Street and the City Hall square are merely suggestions. No one stays in his lane, least of all the gonzo taxi cab drivers as they come flying off of Broad Street.

Despite nearly getting clipped on what seemed like all sides of our vehicle that evening, we righted the ship and eventually found our way across town to the art show venue. But I never forgot that feeling of being plunged into a washing machine.

While walking near that same intersection last summer, I found this view looking down into the distance along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. With the beautiful light and the same chaotic energy, this location suddenly became a perfect subject.
