7th Avenue Soleil

7th Avenue in the heart of New York City is a frequent subject in my artwork. I love the profile that the tall buildings cut against the sky and the tapestry of colorful signs and billboards, which are always changing. To me, there is something new to see with each visit.

The impetus behind this small format work was the wonderful wedge of shadow in the foreground. As I’ve written before on this site, the smallest of details can motivate an entire piece. I loved the angle of the sliver of shadow, as well as the play of brilliant, sun-bathed hues throughout this composition.
