Winter Pines: Whisper

Winter Pines, Whisper

12 x 24. Pastel on board.

Just as I've always preferred music in a minor key with a lot of bass, I also tend to favor dark, moody ideas in my artwork. I think this is why I favor nighttime cityscapes as well. Here, the last threads of daylight criss-cross the snow in a thick stand of hemlocks and white pines within central Pennsylvania's Black Moshannon State Park. It's difficult to see here on a computer screen, but there's a lot of great color within this piece despite its moody light. This is the third in an ongoing series of works themed upon pine trees and cast shadows.
