We've enjoyed some beautiful weather here this summer and the bonus from this is that the late afternoon and evening skies are often spectacular. This piece grew up from an on-location study that I did during extremely windy conditions.
I admit it: I'm a fair-weathered plein air painter (largely because my hands are chronically icy, even in the middle of summer). And the strong wind gusts on this evening about drove me nuts as they whistled across my easel with a vicious hiss. I wasn't sufficiently pleased with the resulting piece to call it a "keeper," but time spent in the field is never wasted and this piece grew up from that on-location study. I love moody skies like this, and I was particularly drawn to the great light throughout the scene.
