8 x 12. Pastel on paper.
Most of the parents that I know would never dare admit aloud that they have a favorite child. And for us artists it's kind of the same: We're not comfortable admitting that we have a favorite painting.
"I love them all equally!"
But I'll make an exception. This is currently my favorite painting. I love its texture and sparkling light.
Against all of the solitary hours in my studio and all of the sweaty hours at outdoor art shows, the greatest reward in what I do lies in being able to haul my easel outside to work on location.
This piece captures a downstream view of Honey Creek in Reeds Gap State Park, Pennsylvania. I set up with one easel leg in the water and one muddy dog, my Studio Mascot, Annie, constantly in and out of the water.
Check out my Studio Diary for a Postcard from the Easel with this piece in progress.
