18 x 18. Pastel on board.
The patterns of color as well as light / dark contrasts are usually the motivating forces behind my cityscapes. This piece is a bit different because it is more subdued than some of my flashier nighttime motifs, although I think this is fitting for the rainy day theme. With this idea, I was intrigued by the mellow tableau of greys and neutral browns, punctuated by the red, yellow, and green accents.
This was 58th Street in midtown Manhattan. The red awning is actually part of the side entry to the world-famous toy store F.A.O. Schwarz. I've never been there. I think I'd get lost for the day, especially in the Legos section. I absolutely loved Legos as a kid. There was no better way to spend a snow day in Wisconsin than with those little plastic bricks.
