In addition to nighttime street scenes, another theme in my cityscapes is the "lone figure." I think that this is because I grew up in the hyper-friendly ethos of the upper midwest (Wisconsin), and when I first began to visit our nation's major cities I was surprised at how people who lived in such population-dense areas often seemed to go about their days in an insular manner, apart from the hordes of others around them. This continues to be a source of fascination to me. I found the inspiration for this piece in downtown Philadelphia.
