8 x 16. Pastel on board.
When I visited New York City this past summer, it was quite warm. On this particular day, the weather forecasters called for rain by lunchtime with an approaching cold front. However, much of the day came and went and no rain materialized. It remained hot and sunny. And throughout the day, I faithfully trudged around wearing long pants and toting my umbrella and raincoat, sweating like a pig the whole time. Finally, during the early evening the rain materialized.
It rained so hard that I got pretty soaked because I was many, many blocks away from my hotel when the sky opened (Of course!). Fortunately, my near-drowning was worth it, as I believe that this piece illustrates. I'll always be a sucker for reflected lights on pavement and I love the contrast here between the vibrant reds and the subdued hues of the city.
